TOMORROW'S BLUES TODAYMP3 and/or Windows Media sample(s) available

ARRANGED BY FRANK FOSTER

'Tomorrow's Blues Today' is a somewhat different kind of blues. While it employs the normal 12-bar chorus format, it uses minor seventh chords insted of dominant chords in the first eight measures of the 12-bar chorus. Yet, it's not a minor blues, because it sounds major as a result of the minor 7th substitutions, which do not resolve to dominant 7th chords in II-V sequences. The only dominant 7th chord in any chorusm occurs in the 9th and 10th measures, a C7 raised 9th. Solos are for 1st tenor and 4th trumpet. Not a difficult chart, perhaps medium. This should go down smoothly in a medium swing tempo (quarter note = 108). Trumpet 1 to double high G.
